CONNECT
A European trial to establish the optimal care for children with non-symptomatic Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation (CPAM).

Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation,
or CPAM, is a rare lung condition present at birth, characterized by abnormal lesions (called cysts) in the lungs. Diagnosis often occurs before birth through prenatal ultrasounds. Most patients with CPAM show no symptoms. However in some cases, surgery is needed.

Goals of the trial
Finding consensus on optimal treatment
Currently, there is disagreement among healthcare professionals regarding the optimal care for children with CPAM who do not experience symptoms. Some hospitals opt for the surgical removal of all CPAMs, including non-symptomatic lesions, while others refrain from surgery in children without symptoms and instead provide outpatient follow-up for this group. This decision is based on the personal preference of local clinicians and does not rely on hard evidence. With the CONNECT Trial, we aim to establish an evidence-based strategy for the optimal care of these children.
A European initiative
Since CPAM is a rare condition, collaboration with other hospitals is essential to conduct the CONNECT Trial. We are constantly seeking hospitals willing to join our study network and contribute to our cause.

For healthcare professionals
For healthcare professionals who are already participating as a center in the CONNECT trial, we have placed all necessary information and documents on a separate page.
